Born in Montreal in 1970, Vanessa Hershorn embarked on a lifelong artistic journey that has taken her across continents, infusing her work with a vibrant tapestry of colors and cultural influences.
Vanessa’s artistic odyssey began with her formal studies in Arts at Dawson College and McGill University. In 1993, she embarked on a transformative sojourn to Costa Rica, intending a brief stay that evolved into an adventurous odyssey spanning several years. Immersed in the tropical landscapes, Vanessa found inspiration in the vivid hues of her surroundings and the simplicity of daily life. Her resulting paintings became a celebration of the spirit and atmosphere of everyday scenes, capturing the essence of tropical living.
During her time in Costa Rica, Vanessa’s artwork gained recognition, with exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the national theatre café gallery and the Hotel Intercontinental of San Jose, where her pieces were showcased for a Canada Day Celebration under the patronage of the Canadian Embassy.
In addition to her exhibition success, Vanessa has shared her passion for art as a teacher, working with children and teenagers both in Montreal and Costa Rica, fostering creativity and artistic expression.
Returning to Montreal, Vanessa rediscovered her favorite locales, painting them with a newfound sensitivity that evokes the emotions of the moment. Her spontaneous and lively naive style breathes life into each canvas, capturing the beauty of everyday moments. Vanessa’s connection to her hometown has been further celebrated through two highly successful exhibitions, featuring a captivating exploration of Montreal’s local themes. The first exhibition unveiled her deep understanding of the city’s essence, while the second delved into the vibrant cultural tapestry of Montreal life. These exhibitions not only affirmed Vanessa’s artistic prowess but also established her as a prominent voice in capturing the heart and soul of her beloved Montreal.
More recently, Vanessa drew inspiration from her travels, particularly after an artist residency in the south of Italy. Her latest collection reflects the everyday scenes of local life, pulsating with color, action, and movement. Vanessa is driven by a perpetual desire to paint and travel, continually seeking new sources of inspiration to weave into her evolving tapestry of artistic expression.
